  1. 1. What was really at stake in the disagreement and duel between Aaron Burr and Alexander Hamilton?

Not only were their lives at stake, but also the image in which people throughout history viewed them and their political careers and the era in which they resided in in terms of the founding of the country was also at stake.

    2. Was this merely a war over words?

Yes, this was merely a war over words. Reason why is because although Burr took the comments of Hamilton basically calling him a man of no ideals as offensive, Hamilton meant what he said from a political standpoint.

    3. In your professional :) opinion, do you think that words had more significance back then than they do now? What role did newspapers play in the drama, and how is the media's role different or similar today?

In my professional opinion, I think that words have the same amount of significance then as they do now. The newspapers fueled the drama because in my opinion they kept on putting pressure on Hamilton to apologise to Burr, even though Hamilton was being political. Media plays the same role today because like the duel between Burr and Hamilton, social media and other forms of media fuel people to fight over what is said.

  3. 1. The way they were portrayed and seen was at stake as well as their lives. Burr shot Hamilton and was seen as a villain and it ended his political career. Hamilton was seen as a hero and was memorialized as a martyr.
    2. This was just a war over words. Hamilton gave his opinion on Burr and refused to retract what he said. This cause Burr to be upset and it caused them to fight. It was about words but it was built up over years of going against each other.
    3. I think it’s the same back then and now. Political leaders are a very big part of our lives and what they say and do are in newspaper and media daily. Newspapers and Media played the same role back then as they do now. It brings more attention to what’s happening and puts more pressure on politicians.

Not to mention about their lives were at stake but also their image was at stake. How people viewed them throughout their lives and political careers and the era in which they resided in terms.

    2. Was this merely a war over words?
Yes because although burr took the comments of Hamilton calling him a man of no ideals as offensive, Hamilton meant everything he said from a political point.

There are no difference from then and now , it’s the same. Political leaders are a very big part of our everyday lives as citizens. Everything they say and do are in the newspaper and media daily. Newspaper and media played the same role back then as they do now , that’s where you get all of the information. It brings the most attention to what’s happening and puts more pressure on politics.

  5. What was at stake in the disagreement and duel between Arron Burr and Alexander Hamilton was the way they were viewed in history as well as their lives. Once Burr shot Hamilton his reputation went down hill. Hamilton was remembered for the good he has done.

The war was over words. Burr did not like that Hamilton said he didn’t stand for anything and that Hamilton would not say sorry for it. Hamilton was talking in a political aspect and Burr took it personal.

I believe words have the same significance now as back then it all depends on the topic at hand. In the newspapers they exaggerate topics and put emphasis on what would make the other party upset. The media today is similar because there are always someone twisting words and misinterpreting things that have been said.

  6. 1. What was really at stake in the disagreement and duel between Aaron Burr and Alexander Hamilton?

The main thing at stake from the aftermath of the conflict is both of the men's reputations washed down the drain. Hamilton was merely forgotten as a an important founding father. Then Burr does not any good kind of credit for shooting Hamilton, instead people look at him as if he is disgraceful for killing such an honorable man.

    2. Was this merely a war over words?

That is exactly what is was because Burr did not have any sorts of beliefs, Hamilton felt the need to correct that. Hamilton believed it was not wise for anyone without beliefs to even be running the nation. So Burr found himself bickering with Hamilton in letter form.

    3. In your professional :) opinion, do you think that words had more significance back then than they do now? What role did newspapers play in the drama, and how is the media's role different or similar today?

Words have the same amount of significance that they do back then as they do now. It goes the same way as it did in the past as it does now when someone comes for your beliefs. You would not like to let it slide because it is what you live and abide by. The newspapers influenced the drama as well. For instance, they made Burr seem like a horrible individual with all the propaganda and political cartoons placed into the media. This shows how the media is the same way today, when someone has committed an act of indecency then they are called out and the media can drag their name through the mud to dramatize and demean the person.

  7. 1. What was really at stake in the disagreement and duel between Aaron Burr and Alexander Hamilton?

In the disagreement and duel between Burr and Hamilton, they risked their lives which were obviously at stake but they also risked how other people views them and their reputation. Burr received a huge amount of backlash and Hamilton lost a huge amount of recognition.

    2. Was this merely a war over words?

I believe that the entirety of this war was over the offensive that Burr took over they words Hamilton spoke saying that is he basically an unstable man without beliefs and that being that way is unacceptable.

    3. In your professional :) opinion, do you think that words had more significance back then than they do now? What role did newspapers play in the drama, and how is the media's role different or similar today?

I believe that words today and back in the day has the same effect but the consequences that come with saying certain things are total opposite, newspapers honestly blew up situations to sell the product and media is the same exact way. For example, fake news.

  8. 1. What was really at stake in the disagreement and duel between Aaron Burr and Alexander Hamilton?

What was really at stake in the disagreement and duel between Aaron Burr and Alexander Hamilton was their lives, reputations, and their political careers. This was a battle for their future in a multitude of ways.

    2. Was this merely a war over words?

No this wasn't I believe that it was going to be inevitable. Burr always deep down inside had some contempt for Alex. This was merely a ruse and opportunity to put down his nemesis. He dug a hole from himself, but was too scared to jump in himself, so he made his "best friend" carry the burden.

    3. In your professional :) opinion, do you think that words had more significance back then than they do now? What role did newspapers play in the drama, and how is the media's role different or similar today?

Words no matter the time and era always are significant. That's why we have a whole amendment protecting them. They valued free speech and the right to bear arms. So even if they didn't intentionally do it the meaning behind it is that words carry the same weight and power as a gun. So we should be able to carry a gun, and keep our tongues sharp. All we have is our words so it's no wonder it was so important back then. Media is an amplifier and as today all they do is insert narratives and allow the people to decide, but is it always beneficial, that's up to us to decide.

  9. Both Hamilton and Burr's life depended on the duel. They were fighting about one's perception of the other. The duel altered how they were remembered in history.

The war was based on Burr's insecurities. He has always been jealous of Hamilton's accomplishments. I believe the way he was viewed was important to him especially someone like Hamilton. Burr took great offense to Hamilton's words and considered it an attack on his character, which one can assume is due to his insecurities.

Words had a much greater impact during that time period because its all they had to go off of. There weren't any phones or computers that could relay messages or information. Words were one of the few forms of communication. The newspapers main focus want facts. They published information rather it was rumor or not. The newspaper was a way to gossip, like social media platforms today.

  10. Burrs & Hamilton lives, reputations, and their political careers was at stake. This was a dual shifted the way they were seen in history.

Yes , I do believe this was merely a “war” over words. I say this due to the fact that Burr took what Hamilton would say about him having no ideals to offense and wanted revenge but just never really knew how to get it.

In my professional opinion , words held a heavier weight back then than they do now. The newspapers were like social media and promoted all the conflict in the world. I believe the roles of the media today is similar especially with promoting the wrong things.

What was really at stake in the disagreement and duel between Aaron Burr and Alexander Hamilton was their reputation and lives.

    2. Was this merely a war over words?

Yes, the war between Hamilton and Burr was over words and Burr took what Hamilton said personally and things escalated.

    3. In your professional :) opinion, do you think that words had more significance back then than they do now? What role did newspapers play in the drama, and how is the media's role different or similar today?

In my opinion words have the same significance today as they wants did back in the day. The newspapers and media add fuel to the fire by bringing a larger audience into the situation forcing the people involved to escalate in order to “prove themselves” in order to save their reputation.

  12. 1. What was really at stake in the disagreement and duel between Aaron Burr and Alexander Hamilton?

The main thing at stake from the aftermath of the conflict is both of the men losing their country’s respect for them as a leader.

    2. Was this merely a war over words?

Yes, because the words meant something to both parties. It was taken very seriously on both ends. Bur felt as though Hamilton’s meant more to his words then he lead on. He felt disrespected as a person.

    3. In your professional :) opinion, do you think that words had more significance back then than they do now? What role did newspapers play in the drama, and how is the media's role different or similar today?

In my opinion, words hold a heavier weight then than now. The newspaper played a big role in the drama it was a different form of social media. it’s very similar to today’s media especially instagram

  13. 1. The stake because of this disagreement was the lives and reputations of prominent historical figures that will be now known for the terrible choice they made.

    2. This war was solely because of the words that had been exchanged between the two figures and that one didn’t agree with the other.

    3. In my opinion, I would say that words meant a lot in the past because words were the only way to be perceived in those times. The drama from the newspapers added a level of spectators and opinions that deepen the issue because people didn’t want to look bad “in front of” others. Similar to social media and how people want to be seen.

What was really at stake in the disagreement and duel between Aaron Burr and Alexander Hamilton was both of their lives and reputation.

    2. Was this merely a war over words?

This was a war over words because since Aaron Burr did not have any beliefs, Alexander Hamilton took it upon his self to make a comment towards him basically stating that no man should run the nation without having any beliefs, which caused Burr to take offense by what was said.

    3. In your professional :) opinion, do you think that words had more significance back then than they do now? What role did newspapers play in the drama, and how is the media's role different or similar today?

In my opinion, I believe that words hold the same significance today as it did back then. The newspaper help in preventing social exploitation that can threaten the existence of something or and someone. The media role is very similar especially when it comes to promoting something very negative than positivity.

  15. Both Hamilton and Burr life was at stake and also how people in history viewed them after the dual

I feel like this war was over words and also jealousy Nd rage burr had against Hamilton bcuz he basically blamed Hamilton for him not succeeding Nd felt Hamilton words are the reason why

I believe word back then holds more significance because people based their decision on what the higher people said and back then your word was all u had to prove anything there was no videos or pictures people had to take your word
