  1. 1. How do Douglas and Lincoln differ in their views on what rights black Americans ought to enjoy?

Douglass does not want any negros to possess the same rights as whites. These views stem from an aura of white supremacy that Stephen keeps close to himself. In fact, Douglass has said that he does not consider any negro to be his brother. Lincoln on the other hand, want negros to enjoy the rights that is described in the constitution.
    2. What is Douglas's response to antislavery criticism of slavery in the southern states?
Douglass states that all states have a right of popular sovereignty to chose whether or not they will have slavery or not. One can infer though that excerpt that shephen basically saying that the movement is unnecessary as they can use popular sovereignty to settle the matter of slavery

Douglas believed that slavery in the south was fine because of their large dependence on slavery and he was fine with just the north being free while the south supported slavery.

  3. 1. How do Douglas and Lincoln differ in their views on what rights black Americans ought to enjoy?

To Douglas, blacks do not deserve the same rights as whites. They are not the same, black people are inferior, and white people are more supreme and should not be looked at on the same level as blacks. To Lincoln, even though he wasn't a complete abolitionist and did not completely view blacks on the same level, since all men are equal in the constitution, they deserve the same rights as whites.

    2. What is Douglas's response to antislavery criticism of slavery in the southern states?

Douglas completely believed in popular soverignty. He was fine with the north being the freed states and the south being the slave states because to Douglas a state being a slave or free state depended on weather or not the people of the state wanted slavery or not.

  5. 1. How do Douglas and Lincoln differ in their views on what rights black Americans ought to enjoy?

Lincoln believes that blacks and whites will never meet eye to eye and both of their standings in this country will never be on equal platforms but at the end of the day he still wants blacks to gain and maintain life, liberty, & the pursuit of happiness. While on the other hand, Douglas mocks Lincoln on his political ideas and viewpoints and believes that this country's rights are in favor of the white men of European descent and all other races, including blacks, are deemed inferior.

    2. What is Douglas's response to antislavery criticism of slavery in the southern states?

Douglas advocates and stands for popular sovereignty because he thought were the country was standing now was fine with him: the south had slavery all through out and north had their freed states. If anything he did not want others to see his opinion on the issue of growing slave territory or he recieve more hate from the people and that's the last thing he wants.

Lincoln's opinions of what rights black Americans would possess are that blacks and whites can never compromise or find common ground. He also emphasizes that both races will never be on an equal level in this society, but still he insists he also wants minorities to obtain and retain life, freedom and the pursuit of happiness.
