ReplyDeleteAdam Smith tells us how “the influx of goods from the new world” most certainly “greatly increased the enjoyments of the people of Europe and the market for European goods”. With that being said the discovery and colonization affected the trading directly and materials they most likely wouldn’t have gotten. Some of these materials were for pleasure and some for ornament.

Smith believes by “uniting and enabling them to relieve one anothers wants, to increase enjoyments, and to encourage one anothers industry”. Europeans
ultimately benefitted while the natives had higher misfortunes than them.

According to Adam Smith, the “discovery and colonization” of America affected the economic development of Europe greatly because it helped grow its industry. Plus they were able to get the surplus produce of America, imported to them that they would not have been able to possessed.

Smith believes that the “benefits” of colonization out weighted the “ misfortunes” because to him the explorers were about to discover the greatest thing to mankind, it increase everyone enjoyment, made Europe wealthier and that can always override the deaths of the Natives that died for their land.

This increased the sale and uplifted their economy. This allowed the Europeans to indulge in more pleasures.

He believed some of the benefits that outweighed the misfortunes was it promoted more trade.It allowed more connectivity between nations and industries, because if want country has a want, another country may fulfill it.

Without the Colonization of the Dutch, Spanish and French, Smith believes certain things wouldn’t exist if it wasn’t for them coming to the new world.

(I think that Smith is biased and his statements proves that he has a one sided on why the colonizers basically developed the natives economy for the better)

This increased the industry of trade making it easier for other countries like Spain, Portugal, France, and England to trade with each other.

Smith believed that the benefits outweighed the misfortunes because to him it connected most of the world. To Smith the happiness and comfort the Europeans found with their new resources was worth all the misfortune they caused.

ReplyDeleteAmerica affected the economic development of Europe positively by them finding a variety of commodities. They had also had a an extensive trade system between the main countries. They truly did thrive off the New World's offerings.
