What actions did the Indians take during the Pueblo Revolt to demonstrate their new freedom from Spanish rule?
ReplyDeleteThe Indian burned down any and all objects relating to Christianity and washed off the holy water because they know that Christianity or catholic Christianity to be exact to be the center of Spanish culture and as such knew that there was not a better to reject the Spaniard control than this
Why do you think religion played such a large role in the Pueblo Revolt
Religion played a big role in this because due to the rising number of opposing religions towards catholic church many found it necessary to enforce their own religion with included attempting to destroy the Indian's religion while is a cornerstone to their way of life. Many times in history we have seen people fight against those who try to destroy their way of life and this is not an exception
1. What actions did the Indians take during the Pueblo Revolt to demonstrate their new freedom from Spanish rule?
ReplyDeleteThe Indians had burned a church shouting how the god of Spaniards was dead and also that Santa Maria and him were pieces of rotten wood. The also ordered that all the temples, images, crosses, and rosemaries were to be burned. The Indian bathed in the river to get rid of their baptism, the names of Jesus in the Mary should not be uttered, to discard their baptismal names, and abandon the wives they were given in matrimony and to take the ones they pleased.
2. Why do you think religion played such a large role in the Pueblo Revolt
I think the religion played a large role in the Pueblo Revolt because this is how they were bonded to them. They were bonded through the religion and they thought that if they were able to break for and get rid of anything that represents that religion that they will be free from their hold on them.
The teacher in the clip is Lin-Manuel Miranda and he’s well known for writing the book, music and lyrics for Hamilton.
ReplyDelete1. The Indians destroyed things pertaining to divine worship. They burned churches, killed priests, burned temples and images as well as crosses and rosaries. The chiefs declared that no one should speak the names of Jesus and Mary and they disbanded their names given during baptism. They also abandoned their wives and took the ones they wanted.
ReplyDelete2. I think it played such a big role in the revolt because Spain came to the natives land and was trying to take over. One of the ways they were doing this is through religion and trying to introduce them to religion to “save them from heathenism and protestantism”. The revolt against religion was a way to show that this is not what they wanted.
1) What actions did the Indians take during the Pueblo Revolt to demonstrate their new freedom from Spanish rule?
ReplyDeleteThe Indians would burn images of the Virgin Mary, Christ and other saints. They also would break up bells and burn temples. Lastly they would burn anything related to divine worship. These are the many actions they took during the Pueblo Revolt to demonstrate their new freedom from Spanish rule
2) Why do you think religion played such a large roll in the Pueblo Revolt?
Religion played a big role in the Pueblo Revolt. Because of the large number of opposing religions, the Catholic Church was forced to stick together and enforce its religion onto others. The Pueblo was considered an attack on traditional religion. Many felt as though giving up their religion was equivalent to giving up life itself.
The Pueblo Revolt was a big deal. After the Europeans enslaved tortured and abused them they decided to rebuttal. They decided to destroy anything religious to torment the Europeans. They burned pictures churches temples or anything that related to the Europeans religious beliefs. They made a joke of anything that had to do with the Europeans to show their hurt.
ReplyDeleteThe Pueblo Revolt was an uprise against the Spaniards. Their Religions were important to them without their religion and soul beliefs there was no foundation for the Spaniards. The Pueblo People knew this and use their Religious beliefs against them by destroying the Things they used to worship their religion
1A: The Indians took action during the Pueblo Revolt by burning images of holy Christ, crosses, temples, the Virgin Mary and many other things to show the colonizers that they didn’t support their religion and wouldn’t convert to what was being forced upon them.
ReplyDelete2B: Religion played a large role in Pueblo revolt because the colonizers were trying to force the Indians to convert to Christianity. During that time, there were many religions which certain individuals simply didn’t understand. Because of this, colonizers ( along with others) felt as though there was one CORRECT religion to be followed and it was Christianity. Considering they were trying to take their land, they believed that Christianity would save them from the heathenism and Protestantism.
What actions did Indians take during the Pueblo Revolt to demonstrate their new freedom from Spanish rule?
ReplyDeleteThe Indians took a bunch of christian scriptures and pictures. They destroyed temples and destroyed families that were combined in the name of God. Priest and other church related figures were killed also.
Why do you think religion played such a large roll in the Pueblo Revolt?
Religion played such a large role because the two groups had two opposing beliefs. The religions were also used to justify why certain things were done to people. So the two groups had to target each others religion to destroy it so they have nothing else.
What actions did the Indians take during the Pueblo Revolt to demonstrate their new freedom from Spanish rule?
ReplyDeleteSome actions that the Indians did during this Revolt were things that basically disrespected Christianity by violently destroying things in reference to the ways of God like crosses, temples, the Virgin Mary, and even killing the priest. So many negative situations occurred during this time.
Why do you think religion played such a large roll in the Pueblo Revolt?
I believe that religion played a big role because it is what centered them. They based every move off of their religious practices and without God there was no them.
The Indians began to start rivals and destroy the things that the Spaniards had dear to their hearts. The Indians burned the temples and the images of the Holy Christ. Any object that corresponded with Christianity the Indians made sure it was ruined.
ReplyDeleteReligion was very important in the Pueblo Revolt because the Spaniards wanted to spread the word of God and make it known that they were there to convert the Indians once they seen there was no actual religion there. They would violently try to convert the Indians.

Religion played a large role in the Pueblo Revolt because Religion was the main validation behind the taking of land the justification of their actions. The pope and church was the one who condoned such terrible actions. ReplyDelete1. What actions did the Indians take during the Pueblo Revolt to demonstrate their new freedom from Spanish rule? During the Pueblo Revolt, the Indians burned all the Spaniards temples, images, crosses and rosaries. Left the wives that were forced on them and went to those they desired. Then, went to bathe in the rivers to wash away the waters of baptism. They started getting back to their culture showing their children how they run things. They made sure nothing about Christianity came up in their vocabulary.
2. Why do you think religion played such a large role in the Pueblo Revolt?
Religion played a big role in the Pueblo Revolt because the Natives were forced to covert to Christianity since their religion was “sinful” to the Spaniards.
1. What actions did the Indians take during the Pueblo Revolt to demonstrate their new freedom from Spanish rule?
ReplyDeleteDuring the Pueblo Revolt the Indians expressed their new freedom from Spanish rule by burning down things in relation to the Christian ideology. In example, they burned down artifacts and buildings belonging to the Christians.
2. Why do you think religion played such a large role in the Pueblo Revolt?
Religion was a large role in the Pueblo Revolt due to Religion being the main support behind the reasoning of taking the land and the justification of their actions. The pope and church allowed the horrific actions that took place in this event. If there was no Religion there , the Indians would’ve been forced either way to convert. Also they used this so called religion to “save” the Indians when in fact they were harming them and taking away their OWN religious values.
1: What actions did the Indians take during the Pueblo Revolt to demonstrate their new freedom from Spanish rule?
ReplyDeleteThe Actions that the Indians took during the Pueblo Revolt to demonstrate their new freedom from Spanish rule was by thinking what matters the most to the Europeans, and that was there religion. So they came up with multiple ways to disrespect their religion, for example, “They all went to bathe in rivers, saying that they thereby washed away the water of baptism.” Also, they burned images, churches, the crosses, anything related to Christianity.
2: Why do you think religion played such a large role in the Pueblo Revolt?
I think religion played such a large role in the Pueblo Revolt because the Spaniards life, every movement they made revolved around their religion. If they gave up God they would’ve felt like they gave up life its self. That’s why they made it known that they were there to convert the Indians once they noticed their was no religion set! So they did everything they could think off to to force Christianity upon the Indians, even if it was violent.
1.) what actions did Indians take during the Pueblo Revolt to demonstrate their new freedom from Spanish rule?
ReplyDeleteThey burned images of the Virgin Mary and saints. They left their wives that they were forced to love and went with the ones they actually loved.
2.) why do you think religion played such a large role in the Pueblo revolt?
In 1680 there was an uprising of several pueblos of the Pueblo people against Spanish colonization of the Americas in the province of Santa Fe de Nuevo México. Giving up your religion is like giving up yourself to them .
Pueblo was the assault on their religion.

ReplyDelete1 During the Pueblo Revolt to express their new freedom from the Spanish the Indians would burn things they were tied to Christianity. Things such as photos of virgin Mary and other saint, they also burned down religious temples.
ReplyDelete2 I believe religion played such a big part in the Pueblo Revolt because it was Spain’s main reason for wanting to take over the land owned by the natives. They tried to force their religion the the natives so much that it’s what they used to acclaim their freedom.
What actions did the Indians take during the Pueblo Revolt to demonstrate their new freedom from Spanish rule?
ReplyDeleteThe Pueblo Revolt was one of the biggest turning points in the Native American History to portray their freedom. The Native Americans were beaten, tormented, and abused brutally. They wanted to demonstrate their freedom to the Europeans and did that best by disrespecting what they valued the most, their religion. They burned the images, churches, and all things pertaining to God or worship. They made a joke and a mockery out of what they believed because they broke their souls. Natives who received baptism previously, washed away all of their sanctity. They all dove into the rivers, and cleansed themselves. Priests were killed, temples, rosaries, and crosses were burned. Superstitious rites were practiced at churches and taught to children to understand they they to just do this in the future. The captain and chiefs ordered that the names of Jesus and Mary were to never be said. To also discard their baptismal names, and leave the wives given to them in holy matrimony, to take the ones they pleased. As soon as the remaining Spaniards left, their houses of idolatry were danced upon and throughout the kingdom the dance of “crazina” in the image of the devil. The Natives did all of the this, in the name of Freedom.
Why do you think religion played such a large role in the Pueblo Revolt?
ReplyDeleteReligion played such a large role in the Pueblo Revolt because religion was one of the greatest treasures of the Europeans. It states ''Franciscan friars worked diligently, often violently, to convert Indians to Catholicism'', the Europeans wanted so badly for the Natives to convert that they acted out of violence. They behaved like savages, aggressively, all to get what they wanted.
1. To demonstrate their freedom, the Indians divorced their given wives, washed away their baptism, and biting the things related to the Spaniards God.
ReplyDelete2. I believe religion was such a big thing because the Spaniards religion stripped them of their freedoms and normal life. This resulting in the Indians feeling as if as the were not being able to live the lifestyle they were used too.
1. What actions did the Indians take during the Pueblo Revolt to demonstrate their new freedom from Spanish rule?
ReplyDeleteThe Indians did a numerous amount of things made this revolt so well known. The ones that truly struck out were when they burned the churches, making this mockery and trophy of them, killing off many of priests. Bathe in the rivers to cleanse themselves of the Baptist waters. Indians even mocked the churches before they burned them by placing their natural resources around the churches and performing superstitious rites.
2. Why do you think religion played such a large role in the Pueblo Revolt?
Religion is one of those things that is supposed to bring people together so they can have a reason to have faith in something or someone. Though the Spaniards used religion as a way to commit sinful actions to "try and help to make the world a better place". Though the Pueblo Indians were not having that and would not stay silent or sit still because they felt as though if you can harshly enforce religion on them, then they can mock you for it. The whole point of this revolt was for the Indians showing Spain that if this the way they come about with Christianity, then the Indians have no reason to respect what was forced on them.
